Tewodros Syum Gebre is a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina A&T State University. He holds a B.S. in Hydraulic Engineering from Arba Minch University, Ethiopia (2009), an M.S. in Civil Engineering (Road and Transport) from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (2014), and a Ph.D. in Applied Science and Technology from North Carolina A&T State University, USA (2025).
His research focuses on AI model development for smart cities & infrastructure resilience. Tewodros worked on a Microsoft-funded project that used AI and high-resolution UAV imagery for traffic monitoring. He was also a member of the NC Transportation Center of Excellence on Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Technology (NC-CAV), supported by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Tewodros received the G. Herbert Stout Award for Best Student Paper at the North Carolina GIS Conference. He was also awarded the Excellence Scholarship from 2021 to 2024 and received Microsoft’s AFMR grant for 2023–2024.
