Geo Empower Event Scholarship

OVERVIEW

The Geo Empower Event Scholarship aims to empower and support university students passionate about utilizing geospatial, surveying, mapping, and 3D technology for social good and strives to create an inclusive, diverse, and accepting community of professionals. Through this event scholarship program, we seek to foster innovation, in-person knowledge exchange, and access to mentoring and networking opportunities within geospatial fields and the application of geospatial technologies for positive societal impact. The Event Scholarship is dedicated to increasing diversity in leadership roles within the geospatial and 3D communities.

TIMELINE

Applications will be accepted from October 9 – November 15, 2024. Scholarship recipients will be announced by December 18.  Geo Week takes place February 10-12, 2025, at the Denver Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Scholarship recipients (three total) will be granted the opportunity to attend Geo Week, a premier event for increased integration between the built environment, advanced airborne/terrestrial, and commercial 3D technologies.
  • Benefits for Scholarship Recipient: 
    • Each selected student will receive a full conference pass, inclusive of access to all sessions, including the ASPRS Annual Conference and the RCN Track, keynotes, and networking events (up to $1175 value). 
    • Hotel accommodations include a complimentary hotel stay (3 nights in an official event hotel) 
    • Travel stipend for airfare and ground transportation up to $1000 to cover associated travel costs
    • Mentorship matching onsite with geospatial professionals in leadership positions
  • Eligibility: The scholarship is currently open to university students residing in the United States who demonstrate a commitment to leveraging technology for positive social impact. It is intended for traditionally underrepresented students, including those who reflect diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, physical abilities, socioeconomic status, and other backgrounds. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Selection Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on their academic achievements, demonstrated passion for geospatial technology and social impact, leadership potential, commitment to promoting DEI initiatives, and clarity of vision for positive change. 
  • Application Process: Interested students are required to submit an application including a personal statement outlining their interest in geospatial technology and its potential for societal benefit, relevant experiences, and supporting materials (i.e. letter of recommendation, resume, etc)

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide deserving students access to invaluable learning and networking opportunities at Geo Week while actively contributing to increasing DEI initiatives within the geospatial space.
  • Foster a community of passionate individuals dedicated to utilizing geospatial technology for positive societal change and promoting inclusivity within the industry.
  • Encourage innovation and creativity in leveraging geospatial technology for various social impact initiatives while empowering younger generations to have access to opportunities in the field.
The Geo Empower Event Scholarship offers a unique opportunity for university students to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of geospatial technology, contribute to meaningful social change, and actively participate in increasing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives within the geospatial community. By investing in the next generation of geospatial innovators, we aim to catalyze positive transformations to create a brighter future for communities worldwide.
