Edition 2 of the ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data, released in June 2024, represents a significant update to the 2014 Standard that was widely used throughout the industry over the last decade. The new edition includes comprehensive guidance on field survey, photogrammetric and lidar data processing methods to help ensure consistency and common understanding among data providers, software developers, contracting agencies, and end users attempting to apply the Standards in real-world situations. The intent of this technical session is to engage the Geo Week/ASPRS audience in a discussion about implementation of the updated Standards throughout the broader geospatial community, including the need for collaboration, education, and outreach.
ASPRS is also in the process of finalizing additional guidelines on the following topics, which will eventually be incorporated into a new Edition in the future. An overview of these guidelines will be presented in this session.
- Quantifying Horizontal Sampling Density of Aerial Lidar Point Cloud Data
- Modernizing the Concept of Quality Levels for Elevation Data
- 3D Accuracy Assessment of Airborne Lidar Data
