Ayesha Malligai is a geoinformatics professional with an M. Tech. in Geoinformatics from Bharathidasan University and a B. E. in Geomatics Engineering from Anna University, India. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Geomatics at the University of Florida, focusing on utilizing geospatial technology to monitor Hydrilla verticillata, an invasive aquatic species, to support regional biologists in effective management practices.
Before her Ph.D., she served as a Junior Research Fellow at the North Eastern Space Applications Centre and M.G. Science Institute, Ahmedabad, on projects funded by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Space. Her research portfolio includes using SAR data for lunar crater analysis, employing geospatial techniques for land degradation studies, and publishing work on urban sprawl and glacier velocity estimation. Beyond her research, she has contributed to educational events, including providing hands-on training in remote sensing and GIS applications at the North Eastern Space Applications Centre and organizing the National Symposium on Innovations in Geospatial Technology.
Her academic accolades include receiving a merit-based scholarship from Bharathidasan University and being awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Tamil Nadu Muslim Graduates Association for academic excellence. She is a member of “The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi”, University of Florida chapter, and served as the Plant City representative officer for the Gulf Coast Postdoc and Students Association in 2023, where she organized a flash talk and poster competition. She believes that transferring technology and knowledge between experts is key to addressing environmental challenges, emphasizing collaboration and innovation for effective solutions.
