While there are many views about the metaverse, there is no doubt that it holds massive potential for transforming how geospatial data and technologies are used to address a range of issues.. This session, presented by the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC), will bring a geospatial context to the metaverse and provide specific considerations for expanding the value proposition of geospatial technologies. Featuring insights and case studies from an industry-wide report recently released by WGIC, this session will examine the opportunities and challenges for building out the metaverse in the years ahead. The report presents a strategic outlook, building on advances in spatial digital twins, to develop a truly integrated geospatial ecosystem in the metaverse, indeed a virtual representation of our physical universe.
