Innovation and Accuracy in the Built Environment

Feb 17 2026

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MT

Bluebird Ballroom 3A

This session block dives into three critical dimensions of innovation and accuracy in the built environment.

Session 1 – 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Revolutionizing Large-Scale Construction with Advanced Reality Capture & AR

Discover how autonomous reality capture and augmented reality are reshaping project delivery through a real-world case study of the SLAC Linear Accelerator upgrade. Learn how point cloud data was leveraged to streamline progress payments, enhance field efficiency, and close the gap between design intent and construction execution.

Speaker: Sheena Shook

Session 2 – 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Accuracy is Not Optional: Geodetic Truth in the Age of Reality Capture

As technology evolves, precision remains paramount. This session explores why geodetic control and spatial accuracy are foundational to every successful project. Attendees will gain insights into maintaining data integrity across complex workflows and why “close enough” is never enough when building in the digital age.

Speaker: James Shaw

Session 3 – 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Scan-to-BIM at Scale: Prioritising Metadata Over Geometry for FM and Thermal Analysis

When applying Scan-to-BIM at scale (especially for facilities management and thermal analysis) the focus often tends to be on creating highly detailed geometric models. While this level of detail can be valuable in certain contexts, it’s not always necessary and, in many real-world scenarios, can actually become a bottleneck, adding time, cost, and complexity.

In this presentation, we’ll explore a more practical and efficient alternative: using large-volume scanning to produce BIM with simplified geometry, while placing greater emphasis on dynamic, structured data. This shift in focus allows teams to extract the information they actually need, without getting entangled in unnecessary detail.

We’ll share practical examples that show how this approach supports key FM workflows and thermal modelling, streamlines project delivery, reduces overhead, and ultimately aligns better with the real needs of building performance and asset management teams.

Speaker: Jeremy Pilgrim

Together, these sessions reveal how innovation and precision must coexist—showcasing the technologies, strategies, and mindsets driving the next generation of construction excellence.
