Nathan Hopper

Dr. Hopper is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) scientist with over 20 years of experience in applying cutting-edge technologies and spatial analysis techniques to enhance information management and decision-making processes. His expertise lies in leveraging computer-automated workflows and sensor platforms to enhance mapping capabilities for geospatial applications, with a strong background in algorithm design and determination. Dr. Hopper’s areas of specialization encompass a wide range of skills, including advanced satellite image processing, time-series analysis, multi-dimensional visualization, multi-criteria evaluation modeling, risk assessment, spatial decision support model design, web-based mapping application development, and project reporting, monitoring, and management. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Hopper actively contributes to the GIS community as a mentor with the Gulf Blue Navigator Program-an esteemed initiative that grants startup businesses access to state-of-the-art research facilities, wet labs, co-working spaces, and networking opportunities. This program facilitates engagement with the university, industry, state, and federal partners and potential customers while providing year-round access to warm coastal waters. By combining his extensive professional experience with his commitment to education and mentorship, Dr. Hopper continually advances the field of GIS while impacting academia and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
