John McCombs serves as the GIS Team Lead within the Science and Geospatial Services Division (S&GS) on NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management (OCM) contract. He has over 28 years of experience in the geospatial field and has been with OCM for nearly 20 years. During his first 16 years at OCM, he was the contract lead for NOAA’s Coastal Change Analysis Program, overseeing the production, scheduling, and quality control of coastal land cover development. For the next three he was the Southeast and Caribbean Regional Geospatial Coordinator, serving as the point of contact for the coastal management community and all things Digital Coast. During his tenure he also served as Technical Program Leader, helping manage all projects in S&GS, mentoring staff, reviewing project plans, and technical point of contact for proposal writing. He has been a member (and 2021 Fellow) of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing for 24 years, serving in various leadership positions (current Treasurer and Board of Directors). John holds a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and a Master’s degree in Wildlife Management from Virginia Tech.
