Sheng Tan

Sheng Tan is a Ph.D. student in Civil Engineering at Oregon State University specializing in geomatics, photogrammetry, and laser scanning. His current work focuses on coastal change detection using lidar, including monitoring pre and post king tide geomorphic change along the Oregon coast, as well as improving terrestrial LiDAR data quality by fusing imagery with point clouds to detect and mitigate reflection artifacts.

Sheng earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he completed extensive coursework in surveying, photogrammetry, GIS, digital mapping, and satellite surveying. He also completed his Master of Science degree at Purdue University, which strengthened his background in remote sensing, spatial analysis, and environmental applications. His long term goal is to become a professor in geomatics and to inspire future students to pursue careers in surveying and geospatial science.
