Meghan Touat

Meghan is a graduate student at the University of Maryland, currently pursuing a Master’s in Geospatial Intelligence. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Spatial Analysis from the University of North Georgia and a Graduate Certificate in GEOINT from the University of Maryland. Meghan is also an active member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Her Master’s research focuses on the impact of Chinese and Russian mining and logging activities in Africa, examining their effects on economic sovereignty, environmental sustainability, and regional geopolitics.

In her role as a Photogrammetrist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Meghan contributes to cutting-edge research in the remote sensing domain. Her work focuses on the assessment, specification, and validation of commercial satellite data, lidar processing for building heights, and secure routing in the context of nuclear nonproliferation.

Prior to her position at ORNL, Meghan gained valuable experience as an intern at the Air Force Research Lab, where she researched magnetic anomaly-based navigation. She also led orthophoto and lidar production at Surveying and Mapping LLC, further developing her expertise in geospatial technologies.
