Ken VanBree has more than 20 years of experience in As-Built construction documentation. In 1998 his wife bought him an early digital camera that he used to document the new home that they built in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the time he was working in High Tech developing Computer Aided Design programs used to build Silicon Integrated Circuits (ICs), the technology that gave Silicon Valley its name. He used his programming skills to develop an interactive viewer for the as-built photographs of his new home. Little did he know at the time that the world’s first tripod-mounted commercial 3D scanner was released by Cyra that same year. In 2003 Ken decided to start a company developing tools and services for as-built photographic documentation of buildings under construction. In 2017 he joined the USIBD in order to head up an effort to add 2D Imagery documentation standards to the 3D imagery (LiDAR) standards that USIBD already had in place.
