Tony Spicci is a seasoned professional with over 35 years of experience in the geospatial field. His career began in 1992 with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), where he led a diverse team of specialists in technology, geospatial sciences, biometrics, and social science, supporting critical research and science initiatives within the Department. After retiring from MDC, Tony now serves as the Executive Director of the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI), an organization dedicated to advancing the GIS profession through its internationally recognized GISP® (Certified GIS Professional) and GISP-E (Emerging GIS Professional) certification programs. GISCI is committed to upholding high professional and ethical standards while promoting community engagement and mentoring within the GIS industry.
Tony is deeply involved in the geospatial community, serving on various influential committees and boards, including the Missouri GIS Advisory Committee, the National States Geographic Information Council, the Missouri Geographic Names Board, and as a former member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee. He played a key role in the establishment of the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations (COGO), where he continues to contribute as a leader.
In addition to his work with GISCI, Tony is an active member of Missouri Task Force 1, a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team, and volunteers with the Boone County Fire Protection District. Outside of his professional commitments, Tony dedicates his fall weekends to officiating high school football for the Father Tolton Trailblazers, as well as collegiate games for the Mizzou Tigers and professional games for the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs. In 2021, Tony was inducted to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
