Dr. Ryan Alimo is the CEO and co-founder of Opal AI, an NSF-, DOT-, and NASA-funded startup that transforms video, LiDAR, and satellite imagery into actionable spatial intelligence for smart-city planning and wildfire response.
Previously, as Lead Machine Learning Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he advanced autonomous navigation for Mars rovers and earned back-to-back JPL Voyager Awards (2019 & 2020).
Ryan holds a Ph.D. in Computational Science from UC San Diego, completed a postdoctoral fellowship in robotics at Caltech, and earned his MBA from UCLA Anderson. His work focuses on making AI tools readily deployable across state and federal agencies to streamline capital improvement planning, infrastructure inspection, and disaster preparedness. Opal AI is currently piloting its technology with the City of Los Angeles to enhance urban safety and accessibility.
