David Hughes serves in the Geospatial Sciences and Human Security division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) at Oak Ridge, TN as an image and remote sensing scientist. He has held this position at ORNL for close to 10 years. Prior to ORNL, he worked in the DC area for more than 15 years as a remote sensing subject matter expert. Prior to his work in DC, he worked for both the Naval Oceanographic Office and the Naval Research Laboratory (DC and Stennis Space Center, MS). His interests involve the use of space and airborne remote sensing information for the solution to a multitude of problems specifically interests in radiative transfer in the near-shore environment, spectral detection algorithm development, scalable and automated remote sensing solutions, and machine learning utilizing remotely sensed data. His graduate work is from both Emory University (in physics) and the University of Southern Mississippi in coordination with Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center, MS (in Scientific Computing).
