Dr. Daniel Gillins is the past president of the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He works at NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey where he serves as Chief of the Spatial Reference Systems Division. This Division is responsible for defining and maintaining the United State’s National Spatial Reference System. His Division also operates the NOAA CORS Network, determines precise GPS satellite orbits, and conducts and processes airborne and terrestrial gravity surveys. Dan is a licensed professional land surveyor and a former assistant professor in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University.
