Dr. Ahmed Elaksher is a Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology & Surveying Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU). With more than 30 years of experience across academia, industry, and professional service, he is a nationally recognized leader in geomatics. Dr. Elaksher is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), a licensed Professional Surveyor (P.S.) in New Mexico, and an ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist (CP). He serves the people of New Mexico through his role on the New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors (NMBLPEPS). He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. His scholarly contributions achieved 1,192 total citations, an h-index of 15, and an i10-index of 30. He serves as an ABET-ANSAC Team Chair and Program Evaluator, a member of several NCEES committees, Chair of the ASCE Surveying & Geomatics Division Education Committee, and Editor of Surveying and Land Information Science. His leadership roles allow him to contribute to national standards in accreditation, licensure, curriculum development, and workforce preparation. He has received numerous honors, including the NSPS Earle J. Fennell Award, SaGES Educator Award, the NMSU CoE Ed Foreman Excellence Award, the NMSU CoE Synergy Faculty Leadership Award. He was instrumental in securing multiple national NCEES Surveying Education Awards for the geomatics program at NMSU, including the Grand Prize Awards in 2019 and 2022.
