Handheld SLAM is changing how teams capture the built environment, but knowing what these devices can reliably deliver, and where they fit alongside established tools, is still a work in progress. This session combines short presentations with a moderated panel discussion on the emerging landscape of handheld SLAM devices and workflows, featuring practitioners who are putting the technology to work in the field.
Panelists from across the survey and reality capture community will each share a short presentation, drawing on a commissioned accuracy study of RTK-integrated SLAM workflows, the experience of a small survey firm expanding its services, and the lessons of a reality capture team adding handheld SLAM to a fleet of terrestrial lidar and body-mounted systems. A moderator will follow each presentation with questions, helping clarify what you can and cannot expect from these new devices.
The session closes with an audience Q&A, giving attendees a chance to dig into the successes, challenges, and practical lessons of bringing handheld SLAM into everyday workflows.
