Robert Ryan, PhD, is the Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Innovative Imaging and Research, a company that specializes in imaging technologies and image quality. His recent work involves developing night imaging technologies to detect nighttime lights from DLR Earth Sensing Imaging Spectrometer (DESIS) imagery. He has also developed Angstrom, an imaging star photometer, and Terra Vega, the first SI traceable night light point source. Throughout his career, Dr. Ryan has focused on developing sensors, radiometry, image quality assessments, and sensor architecture trades. He has also worked on advanced rocket diagnostics, including high-speed high dynamic range imaging systems and sensors for detecting and discriminating hydrogen and hydrocarbon flames. His contributions include leading the development of an Instrument Validation Laboratory at NASA Stennis Space Center, where he conducted radiometric calibration and spatial resolution evaluations for electro-optical imaging systems used by commercial and government entities. Additionally, Dr. Ryan has served as the Primary Data Acquisition Division Director for ASPRS. Dr. Ryan earned his PhD in Physics from Stony Brook University and holds 11 US patents in optics and sensors. He has also published over 40 papers.
