Birgitta Foster is a Strategic Planner and Program Lead at Sandia National Laboratories in the Facilities’ Asset Management organization. She is responsible for managing the Programmatic Equipment Infrastructure Program, encompassing real property assets, installed as building system components supporting Sandia’s programs. She is currently undertaking the development of an ISO’s Asset Management (ISO 55001) framework for her program.
For over 25 years, Birgitta has been active in creating solutions through industry initiatives and standards organization in US and internationally. She is a respected international authority, writer, and presenter on Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Facility Management. Birgitta is the former Assisting Director of buildingSMART alliance, responsible for the National BIM Standard-US, and was an early member of BIMForum’s Level of Development (LOD) Specification Core Group and USACE/Industry BIM Consortium. Over the past 10 years, Birgitta has been involved with SPAR as a presenter, session chair, and advisory committee member.
Internationally, Birgitta serves on buildingSMART International (bSI) Standards Executive Committee, which oversees the IFC standards development process. Previously, she was the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) Pilot Project/Working Group Lead and a contributing member to numerous working groups. In 2019, Birgitta was one of the first women inducted as a bSI Fellow.
Birgitta has BSME from University of Texas and EMBA from Anderson School at University of New Mexico.
