Baleseng T. Mokoena is a Senior GIS Operator at the City of Ekurhuleni Department of Human Settlements in the Strategy and Planning Division. With over 10 years of working experience at the local municipality, her main responsibilities are to identify well-located land for Human Settlement Development and coordinate potential Social Housing development in the city. She has a Master’s Degree in The Built Environment (Housing) and her research topic was: THE USEFULNESS OF PLANNING SUPPORT SYSTEMS (PSS) TO FOSTER FUTURE SPATIAL PLANNING POST-1994: A CASE OF CITY OF EKURHULENI AND JOHANNESBURG
With lecturing experience and her aspiration to become a research professor, her research interests focus on the application of GIS and Decision Support Tools in informal settlement upgrading, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Human Settlements, and Transport Planning, post-1994 (democracy) in South Africa and the global south.
She is also a sessional lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand, teaching GIS and AutoCAD to second-year students.
