Smart Buildings may seem like a buzzword in construction, but their benefits are clear. With interconnected and automatic systems that respond to sensors based on building use and needs, the costs of heating, cooling, power and more can be reduced. To create a "smart" building, a combination of systems and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors must be put in place. Learn from architect firms how smart buildings are created – both from the ground up, and retrofit into existing structures.
Angie Mendez, A-lab Architects
A building is a living organism of people, resources, services and architecture. By using data to follow up the building's performance, we can create solutions for optimal utilization. Today, enormous resources are used to create advanced BIM models that can be connected to other databases (internet of things / Big Data / user data) to create insights that can be the starting point for human centered architecture. At a-lab we use our own office as a guinea pig to test cutting edge smart building and smart city technologies, join us to share our experiences.
