Digital twin technology is transforming the rail industry by providing advanced tools for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing rail infrastructure. This session explores how digital twins, enhanced with data-driven insights and automated analytics, can improve operational safety, streamline maintenance, and drive cost savings in rail networks worldwide.
Realizing the Potential of Reality Digital Twins for Rail Operations
This presentation examines the role of automated lidar analytics in enhancing rail operations for authorities. By automating inspections and utilizing lidar data, personnel are removed from hazardous environments, promoting safety and efficiency across the rail network. Proactive maintenance strategies based on lidar data enable early detection of track, vegetation, and ballast issues, maximizing asset longevity and reducing costs. Jacobs’ collaboration with Australian rail authorities showcases how network-wide Mobile lidar data, analyzed through this approach, accelerates inspections and smart resource allocation. Following a “capture once, use many times” model, this data provides comprehensive insights for ongoing rail management.
An additional presentation (to be announced), will focus on complementary digital twin solutions for rail maintenance.
