Business Considerations for Digital Transformation, including BIM

Feb 07 2022

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM MT

Room 207

The goal of using BIM, especially for owners and facilities managers, is to have access to a tool that can enhance operations and maintenance processes, leading to increased efficiency. In this session you will hear how to approach BIM implementation, including weighing the use of BIM against the current environment and the direct and indirect impact in areas such as time waste in access to accurate information, delays, overtime, quality failure, safety failure, turnover, document error and errors with regards to deconstruction and retrofitting.

Making a business case for BIM for FM and the path to Smart Digital Twins
Leo Salce, Avant Leap

The practical applications of BIM for the project lifecycle, specifically for Facilities Management and Operations and Maintenance, are still relatively nascent, and the term Digital Twin is often associated with a broad range of definitions depending on who you ask. One often hears the concept of “Starting with the end in mind,” But what if you had a clearer vision of what the end goal truly is or should be? What if the framework fits the digital transformation context – bridging the digital and the physical world? What would the convergence of BIM, GIS, IoT, and AI look like? What is the business case, and where would you start?

Jacob D'Albora, McVeigh Mangum
Advancements in construction technology has created a demand for BIM and VDC Services. While many companies are trying to meet this demand with the creation of in-house BIM departments, the business case for BIM consultants is much stronger. Between overhead costs and expertise in the field, in-house BIM departments typically are not fully supported or fail. This presentation will quickly walk through the business case for using BIM consultants to meet all the BIM and VDC demands.

Digital Transformation for Multi-Site Owners
Kyle Hudson, VIATechnik

Multi-site owners have unique challenges. These companies must view digital transformation and technical value-add opportunities through the lens of scalability. In this discussion, Kyle (VP Ops, VIATechnik) and Sean (Sr Preconstruction Manager, Amazon) will dig into what makes the digital building journey so challenging, unique, and impactful for multi-site owners.

Session format includes brief presentations followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A.

Session moderated by Larry Kleinkemper, Lanmar Services.
