4:00 – 4:30 PM: Reality Capture and Land Surveying – Where do we go from here?
A hundred years ago, we were surveying with a theolite and a chain. Twenty years ago, we began using GNSS solutions as part of our workflow. Now? Now we’re capturing full three-dimensional models of the built world in mere minutes, accomplishing a staggering amount of data collection and detail like never seen before… Â However.. I believe that in many cases, “Reality Capture” is not a seperate and distinct tech industry or trade – it’s simply the evolution of Land Surveying, and should be acknowledged and treated as such. 3D Scanning, UAV Flights, SLAM scanning – they’re all based on fundamental survey principles – and understanding THOSE is the key to creating reliable and accurate data.
